Stories from Men at Our New Journey

From Struggle to Strength: Real Men, Real Recovery

Thomas |July 9,2026

Dear Leo Young,

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for everything you’ve done for me during my time at Our New Journey.

When I came into one of your sober houses, I was at a point in my life where I needed support, structure, and a chance to rebuild. You provided not only a safe place to live but also an environment where I could focus on my recovery and personal growth.

Your dedication to helping people overcome addiction and create better lives does not go unnoticed. The opportunities, guidance, and encouragement I received while living in your sober house have made a meaningful difference in my life. Because of your commitment and belief in recovery, I was able to take important steps toward becoming a healthier, more responsible, and hopeful person.

Thank you for giving me a second chance and for creating a place where people can heal and move forward. I am grateful for your support, your leadership, and the positive impact you have had on my journey.

I will always appreciate what you and Our New Journey have done for me.

With sincere gratitude,

I am writing to express the positive impact that living in an Our New Journey recovery home has had on my life.
Since December 9th, 2025 i had been a resident at an Our New Journey recovery home, a sober living environment. I’m so grateful to be a part of this family. I have experienced significant personal growth and stability. The structured and supportive atmosphere has helped me maintain my sobriety while developing healthier habits and routines. Living alongside others who share similar goals has provided encouragement, accountability, and a sense of community that has been essential to my recovery.

Kevin S. | June 2026

Prior to moving into Leo’s sober house, Our New Journey, my life was unmanageable. On my own I was destructive, a danger to myself and everyone around me, and I was hopeless. I had a lot of unresolved traumas after losing most of my loved ones, including my parents and my fiancée. I checked myself into treatment one last time and by the grace of God I came across Leo’s sober house.
I chose Leo’s house due to the positive reputation he had in the community. Leo is known for accepting only people who genuinely want to change their lives. That will join and participate in a 12-step program and do the work. Because of this the people here in house have the best odds of maintaining sobriety. We hold each other accountable, and support each other through our challenges.
Since moving into this sober house, my life has improved in many meaningful ways. The structured and supportive environment has helped me maintain my sobriety while developing healthier habits and routines.
Living in this sober house has provided me with stability, accountability, and a strong support system. Being surrounded by others who share similar goals has encouraged me to stay focused on my recovery and make positive choices each day. I have learned the importance of responsibility, consistency, and self-discipline. I have improved my relationships with family and friends, become more reliable, and gained a greater sense of self-worth and confidence. I am better able to manage daily responsibilities, maintain employment goals, and work toward a healthier future.
This sober house has given me a safe and positive environment where I can continue growing as a person and strengthening the foundation of my recovery. I am grateful for the opportunities and support it has provided, and I am proud of the progress I have made since moving in. I feel as if Leo’s sober house and the structure has saved my life. I feel there should be more quality recovery homes like this one in particular.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.

Val M. | June 4, 2026

My name is Val and I’m a resident of an Our New Journey sober living home. I am writing this today to share my experience, not just
as someone whose life was saved by this house, but as a dedicated member of the brotherhood that this home provides.

Before finding this home, I was facing the hardest chapter of my life.At my age, starting over isn’t easy. This house provided the stable, structured environment I desperately needed to rebuild my life, regain my independence, and return to being a productive citizen. I am over 1 year sober, and I have this house and its owner to thank for being a huge part of that success.

Here is what life in this house actually looks like on a daily basis: strict Accountability: We live by rules. There is a strict curfew, mandatory random drug and alcohol screenings, and a
zero-tolerance policy. If someone breaks the rules, they cannot stay.

Doing “The Work”: Every single resident here is required to attend 12 step meetings at least 5 times per week (either AA or NA) and adhere to those steps and principles, Further, everyone must be a member of an OASAS (NYS) approved outpatient program.

Property Pride: We treat this house with immense respect. We have daily chore rotations, and we take great pride in keeping the property clean, landscaped, and quiet. If you drive past, you will see a well-maintained, peaceful home. This house gave me a second chance at life when I thought it was too late.

I am forever grateful,

I am writing this letter to formally recognize and express my deepest gratitude for Leo Young and the profound impact he has had on my life, my recovery, and our recovering family as a whole. I have struggled with the disease of addiction for a very long time. Over the years, the weight of this struggle caused me to lose the support of many family members and left me incredibly isolated. When I finally completed rehab and transitioned into the sober living house managed by Leo, I was at a crossroads and highly vulnerable. From the moment I arrived, Leo provided a safe, stable, and structured recovery environment that was crucial for my sobriety. What sets Leo apart is his profound empathy; he truly understands the gravity of my situation. He offers us all unwavering guidance, mentorship, and support prioritizing our human well-being and recovery. Leo’s dedication extends far beyond my personal experience. He has done an immense amount of good for the local community and works tirelessly for every single resident living in this house. He gives us his time one on one, sharing with us, his own personal recovery experience. He often drive us to 12 step meetings. He operates with nothing but the utmost respect, patience, and understanding. He is the rare type of leader who is genuinely willing to go to any length to help absolutely anyone in need, offering practical and emotional support in all areas of life. Thanks to Leo’s dedication and the safe haven he maintains, I am rebuilding my life with a solid foundation. He is a pillar of strength for those of us navigating early recovery, and his contributions to the recovery community are invaluable.

I have struggled with addiction & alcoholism for 20 years and have been in multiple facilities, jails, sober houses, always repeating the same thing never learning. Since being in Leo’s recovery home, he has provided a safe, clean, structured environment unlike the previous places I have been in. This has allowed me to really focus on my recovery. I have 1 year and 3 months clean and sober from all substances today. I don’t think I could have achieved that without being in this particular environment Leo has created. I have learned coping skills living. I’ve learned to get along and be a part of a family of men. I’ve learned responsibility, cleaning up after myself, being accountable, being honest and having integrity. This recovery home has changed the way I live on so many levels and has prepared me to have an apartment of my own soon. I accredit a large amount of my success in recovery to living in this recovery home that Leo has provided.

Joey M | June 2, 2026

I wanted to take an opportunity to express my eternal gratitude to Leo Young at Our New Journey for the exquisite work they do. Upon getting out of inpatient rehabilitation for addiction issues, I needed a particular environment if I were going to make it. Here at Our New Journey, I was blessed into that environment. Not only am I “making it” I am thriving on a personal level I never have in all of my 39 years. The structure in this Sober Living home is something that I absolutely, positively could not do without. I am learning things about myself that I never knew were inside of me. I owe a debt to Mr. Young at Our New Journey that I could not repay if I lived for 2,000 years. I will forever be eternally grateful!

I’m currently staying at one of Leo Young’s homes. Leo has been an inspiration to the guys that are in the house. He has in one way or another helped each man with their journey to sobriety. The house is run like a sewing machine. We have some rules in place that help us develop a routine that in turn does a wonderful job backing up the efforts each person puts into having a sober lifestyle. We have chores that not only keep the place clean and healthy but they also teach discipline. Leo has a very good reputation as a man who cares deeply about everyone’s journey toward a better, sober life. When I came out of rehabilitation, I was recommended one of Leo’s houses and I have not looked back. My journey has been positively honed by this sober house and Leo himself. The things that happen that may derail a client at other houses do not happen here. I would recommend this house if you are looking for solid structure and a sober future.

The Owners of Our new Journey recover homes show nothing but the utmost respect for its members. There is a sense of safety and security in these homes that I have never felt before. The way they are managed is top tier. There are rules and structure which is what we need when traveling this new path of life. There are no confrontations or fights in these houses, none would be tolerated which is amazing and how it is supposed to be. As someone who has lived in dangerous mismanaged “ not sober” houses, Our New Journey is in a class of it’s own, bar none, the best house I’ve ever been in, This house has given me the tools and discipline for this to be the last sober house I ever have to be in!

Quenton M. | June 2026

Our New Journey is a well-structured house that is run for its members to succeed. Leo’s devotion to reminding us of the potential for a renewed life and purpose driven on helping others by carrying the 12 step AA principles in all of our affairs has created for me a new perspective on life. Seeing the possibilities in a seemingly new way. This is what I call a brotherhood in “Our New Journey” because it is. This is a family these houses create.
Giving use the foundation we need to succeed for ourselves, our family and our community.
I’m truly grateful to be a part of Leos recovery home!

Joseph M. | May 2025

When I met leo young I was a defeated man. I thought there was no hope. Through his guidance, the structure of his program, and while integrating the program of alcoholics anonymous into my life I’m becoming the best version of myself. I found the light at the end of the very dark tunnel I was in.

On my path through life in recovery I’ve seen it all. Some sober house owners look at their properties as an easy source of income; they cut corners and turn a blind eye to situations that can endanger the safety or sobriety of an entire house of people.

At Our New Journey, I don’t have to worry about anything like that. Leo only rents to men that value their sobriety and show the drive to better themselves. The house may have more structure than most, but everything asked of us are things that would be done by anyone on an honest road of recovery.

Joseph O. | October 2024

When I was released from rehab, I was looking for a sober house on Long Island and my case worker said this house would be my best choice for my recovery because of the way it is structured and managed and after being here for over 30 days I have to agree with my case worker.

Leo, who runs the houses, is well respected. He runs a great program and I like that the house is well managed and kept clean and all the men are serious about their sobriety.

“I am a Miracle. Beyond my wildest dreams. One day at a time.” These are the quotes so often heard at AA. I have 14 months of sobriety. The quote I can most associate with my time at Our New Journey is, “if you ain’t doing what I’m doing I have no use for you.” Perhaps not eloquently phrased, but it encompasses my recovery at Our New Journey.

All of us together are focused on our sobriety. We all pull for each other, which makes this a special place. If not for Our New Journey, I would never have made it this far or developed the tools to go further. I am a miracle. I could never have done it alone.

Safety—knowing I am protected and that all my property is safe and locked up with a key. There is no fighting, cursing, or street behavior. I’m given the opportunity to grow and redeem myself when I make a mistake. The house stays clean and is never dirty. I’m taught responsibility by having a chore to do, which keeps me humble. Learning accountability by following rules that are specified so I learn how to be mature and aware of my schedule.
